Planning a shoot in a daylight studio
Check the windows, time of day and ways to control the light before reserving a daylight studio.

Photos of a daylight studio capture a single moment. The same corner can look different during your shoot. Plan your session with the studio around the images you want to make and the time of day.
Ask for photos taken at your planned time
Ask which direction the windows face and whether the studio has recent photos taken around your planned start time. Direct sunlight, cloud cover and buildings opposite can change the look. Bring a reference image to show how much contrast you want.
Check how you can adjust the light
Are curtains, diffusion fabrics or panels available to cover the windows? Ask about reflectors and lights too. If you need a consistent series of product images, discuss how to keep the lighting steady between shots.
Plan the most important images first
Prepare your shot list with the photographer and allow time for a test on arrival. Agree on a fallback if the light is different from what you expected. Another corner or a lighting setup can help you stay within your booked hours.
- Discuss the window position and time of day.
- Ask which lighting equipment is included.
- Allow for setup, changing and clearing up within the rental period.
