A clothing shoot involves plenty of work outside the frame. Unpacking, steaming, combining and rehanging items can leave the photographer waiting. Include this preparation in your studio schedule.

Make a list for each look

Number each look and list the images needed: front, back, detail or movement. Put accessories with the correct item and agree who checks that a look is complete. Share the list with the photographer, stylist and model before arriving.

Allow space away from the camera

Ask about a changing area, clothing racks, mirrors and somewhere to steam garments. Confirm what is available and bring anything missing. Keep bags, boxes and used clothing out of walkways; a clear set makes changing looks easier.

Start with one complete test look

Check how fabric, colour and fit appear on camera. Review the required crops and details with the person who will use the images. Then agree a consistent running order, allowing for breaks and clearing up within the hire period.
